From creating your family tree and supporting with DNA research, to helping break down brickwalls or verifying your own research, I offer a range of services to support you to learn more about your family history. See below to learn more about some of the services I offer.

Services

  • Family trees

Would you like a family tree produced either for yourself or as a gift? Would you like a pedigree chart drawn up for your family lineage? Are you interested in your paternal line, your maternal or both?

I am able to research your family tree according to your exact wishes. I can offer packages or an agreed number of hours research.

  • Brickwalls

A genealogical brickwall is a research barrier or a dead-end when you just can’t get any further with your research. One minute you're tracing their life story, then suddenly it’s as if they have magically disappeared. At some point, we all face brick walls like this.

As an experienced problem solver, I can research difficult cases by professionally analysing known information and exploring alternative record types.

  • One-to-one research advice

Do you want to learn how to research your own family tree? Have you researched the basics and want to uncover more and add flesh to the bones?

I can help you with personally tailored sessions at your convenience either by zoom or in person (depending on location).

  • Review and verification of your research

Would you like a professional eye cast over your own research to satisfy yourself that you are on the right track or to offer opinions or strategies for next steps?

I can conduct a review of your own research and offer hints and tips.

  • Military history

Did your ancestor serve in any of the Armed Forces or with the Merchant Navy? Would you like to find out more about the part they played in WW1, WW2 or any earlier conflict?

I can help locate any surviving records and research their military career.

  • DNA analysis and research

Have you taken a DNA test and don’t know where to begin? Are you hoping to use DNA to solve an unknown parentage question for either yourself, your parents or grandparents? Are you hoping to use DNA to trace an unknown grandparent, great grandparent etc?

I can help with any of these situations by analysing your DNA results to determine if your DNA matches hold the answer to your questions and more.

  • Archival research and look ups

Based in Essex, I’m ideally placed to access archives across the South East including but not limited to The National Archives, London Metropolitan Archives, Essex Record Office and Kent Archives as well as the archives of the various London Boroughs. I can also retrieve records from the Suffolk and Norfolk archives as well as the British Library, The Guildhall, The National Army Museum, and The Imperial War Museum.

I can help with planning visits, pre-ordering readers cards and documents and offer accompanied visits.

  • House history

Researching the history of houses has become increasingly popular in recent years, especially since TV programmes such as A House Through Time.

Tracing your house history can reveal the fascinating untold stories of those who lived there before you. Have you ever wondered “Who lived in my house before me?” or simply “What is the history of my house?, “When was it first built?”.

I can help answer those questions by conducting research into the history of your house and those who have lived in it.

For all the various types of research highlighted above, I locate and examine original records and ensure that all records are fully sourced and recorded in my reports. Clients can choose to pay by the hour for targeted research on specific questions or lines or a bespoke package for a set number of research hours.

As well as the free 30 minute consultation, all prices include research time, document retrieval, analysis and report writing.  Regular updates and progress reports will be provided throughout the research process.

Terms and conditions apply and a 50% deposit is required before any research is undertaken.  I accept payment by bank transfer or by cheque, subject to bank clearance.
